The Challenge
As part of a new UK headquarters and commercial hub, Smith & Nephew required a highly flexible and future-ready AV solution to support both internal collaboration and global medical education.
The facility needed to accommodate a wide range of use cases — from standard meeting spaces to the Expert Connect Centre, where surgeons from around the world gather to share knowledge, review clinical data and deliver specialist training.

Our Solution
Nuway delivered a centralised AV and communications platform that maximises flexibility while simplifying system management.
A 16-room meeting centre was built around a unified design approach, with the majority of system hardware located within a central equipment space. This reduced in-room complexity, improved serviceability and allowed consistent performance across all spaces.
To support changing room layouts, portable and adaptable solutions were deployed, including wireless presentation systems and tablet-based control interfaces. Ceiling-mounted microphone systems were specified to automatically adapt to different room configurations, ensuring consistent audio capture regardless of furniture setup.
Following the successful delivery of Phase 1, Nuway was appointed to complete the Expert Connect Centre — a specialist training environment designed for global collaboration. This space supports the sharing of clinical knowledge, surgical techniques and product training, enabling real-time interaction between on-site teams and international participants.
Despite a compressed programme, the system was designed and delivered to meet the client’s complex requirements, combining flexibility with ease of use.

Smith & Nephew now benefits from a highly adaptable and centralised AV environment that supports both day-to-day collaboration and advanced medical education. By minimising in-room complexity while maintaining high performance, the system enables seamless communication across multiple spaces and user scenarios.
